Foot Binding In China

Have you ever heard of the practice called 'Foot Binding' in China? The practice basically involved binding young women’s feet to stunt growth and break the 4 small toes and pull underneath the foot. This would make the women basically crippled. In 1911, the Republic of China government banned foot binding, a practice considered barbaric by other societies.

	Dr. Marina Dery says: Yes, it looks painful and procedure was cruel. On the other hand, look at what is happening in our society. Young women do not have a chance to grow up and feel compfortable with their body ( including their feet). The have to adjust their body to distorted proportions of the anorexia. They have to fit into the clothing that requires starvation. The shoes go along with it. High hills, platforms, etc. makes it impossible for any woman to function. All these fashions just for on purpose to be more sexually appealing. How is it different from ancient tradition of foot binding? Yes, young women could die of the foot binding. Yes women die of anorexia, drug addiction, etc. now just to achieve the size of their body and move around in a very tiny clothing and high hills. The diference, is there is no one to care for our young women, there is no poetry attached to the tradition and francly there is real tradition, just ploain torture that continues. and by the way, there is nobody to care them on their back, bacause the mothers at times try to look and feel just like the daughters.
